HA-HA . . . . it’s no laughing matter!
Before mechanical lawn mowers, a way to keep large areas of grass and lawns trimmed was to allow livestock to graze the grass. A Ha-Ha prevented animals on large estates from gaining access to the lawn adjoining the house.
The design is normally a turfed incline that slopes downward to a sharply vertical face – the Ha-Ha (typically a masonry retaining wall) preserves the uninterrupted view’ from the house’ of the landscape beyond.
HA-HA This name originally came from viewers’ surprise when seeing the construction.
Here you can see the original retaining wall of the HA HA now in a sorry state after many years of weathering. Oakleigh was asked to come up with the best way of dealing with the problem. The advice was to do away with the wall and level the whole area off.
Our client can now say Ta Ta! to the problems created by the ageing Ha Ha!
